Safety Precautions to Follow After Breast Lift Surgery

Due to the aging process many women have to deal with problems such as lost breast volume and sagging of the breasts. These aesthetic concerns can also result from pregnancy, breastfeeding and considerable weight loss. When the breasts lose their attractiveness, there is an equal loss of self confidence and self esteem also, for many women. The ideal solution for this is safe and effective breast lift surgery, which can help regain the size and shape of the breasts. However, there are certain safety precautions you need to follow after your breast lift surgery.

Breast lift surgery normally takes only a couple of hours for completion, being an outpatient procedure. Also, the time taken for recovery is minimal. In most of the cases, patients can resume their normal activities within a week's time after the surgery.

To make the recovery quicker and easier, consider the following tips.

• Patients are often required to wear a "compression garment," which helps to improve blood circulation, reduce swelling and remove fluids that are harmful for the body. The patient needs to wear this garment for around three to four weeks after the breast lift surgery.

• Breast lift being a procedure of a serious nature, patients can return to their daily activities only after a period of two to three weeks, by which time their body fully recovers from the effects of the surgery. Rigorous activities such as lifting of heavy weights and exercising can be taken up only after a period of six weeks.

• Patients are advised to avoid sleeping on their stomachs after their surgery as it can add pressure on their chests.

• Proper care should be taken while bathing in order to avoid the sutures from getting wet.

• The first few days after the surgery are some of the most difficult days as the patients are likely to experience pain and discomfort. Avoiding too much body movement and taking adequate rest can help in reducing the problem to a great extent. Any bruising and swelling present will fade away gradually over a period of time.

• Unusual changes like increase in swelling and bruising, bleeding or discharge should be monitored and brought to the notice of the surgeon immediately.

• Avoid wearing under-wire bra, until your surgeon gives a go ahead.

• The surgery signs may take several months to fade away, although the sutures are removed within the two weeks after the breast lift surgery. Creams for reducing scarring are likely to be prescribed by your surgeon.

• Patients are likely to experience nausea after surgery, which is an anesthetic related problem. Medicines to overcome this problem may be prescribed by your surgeon.
